This position he held until November 1969.

Echeverria was a member of the Faculty of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1947. There he taught political theory and constitutional regulation. Echeverria worked his way up within the PRI’s organization construction until he was appointed Rodolfo Sanchez Taboada’s private secretary.
