Sonny Barger (also known as Ralph Hubert Barger) was an American outlaw biker and author. He also played the role of actor. He joined the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, Oakland, California in 1957. He was the author of five books and made television and movie appearances.

According to him, the most important thing in his life was the time spent with his club brothers, his family and friends. Sonny was already detained twice before, once for possessing drugs and weapons in 1973 and again for conspiring in 1988. Because they suspected he was plotting to harm another gang, they found many explosives and firearms in his hands.
He was charged with 33 other individuals for violating the Racketeer Influed and Corrupt Organizations Law, which President Nixon passed in 1979 to combat organized crime in America. After a jury returned a split verdict, he was found not guilty.

Sonny’s heavy smoking led to a throat cancer diagnosis that required the removal of his vocal cords. He had to have his prostate removed in 2012 due to prostate cancer. His wife Zorana, as well as a few other significant relatives, are his survivors. He was 83 years old.
The Oakland Hells Angels traveled to Southern California, where they merged with other Hells Angels chapters. This created club statutes and divided territory. Barger was elected president. Although there was some fighting within the chapters, the Gypsy Jokers were the main source of disputes.
