Who Is Mwai Kibaki?

Mwai Kibaki is also known as Emilio Mwai Kibaki and is the President of Kenya. Kibaki was the eighth child of eight. He was born in 1931. He was awarded a scholarship to Makerere University, Uganda for his secondary school results. There he studied Economics, History, and Political Science. In 1955, he graduated with first-class honors and began working for Shell’s Uganda branch. When he received a scholarship to the London School of Economics, he left his position. He returned to Makerere University in 1958 as an assistant lecturer for economics.

Achievements of Mwai Kibaki

Kibaki helped to draft the first constitution of independent Kenya during a trip to Kenya. In 1960, he returned to Kenya and served two years as a member of the board for KANU (the largest political party in Kenya at that time). In 1963, Kenya was independent and Kibaki was elected as a member of parliament. Before becoming Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Finance in 1970, he held many positions. In 1978, Mojing appointed Kibaki vice president. The debate was stopped by Moi. Kibaki resigned in 1991 from KANU, formed the Democratic Party, and ran for president only days after the constitution’s one-party state provision was removed. In 1992 and 1997, Kibaki ran as president. In 2002, he was elected president and again was the winner in 2007. He signed a power-sharing agreement with Raila Odinga in 2008 and Odinga was elected prime minister.
